Origin Of Dogs

The dog is a domesticated subspecies of the gray wolf, a mammal of the Canidae family of the order Carnivora. The term encompasses both feral and pet varieties and is also sometimes used to describe wild canids of other subspecies or species. The domestic dog has been one of the most widely kept working and companion animals in human history. There are estimated to be 400 million dogs in the world.

More About Dogs

Based on DNA evidence, the wolf ancestors of modern dogs diverged from other wolves about 100,000 years ago, and dogs were domesticated from those wolf ancestors about 15,000 years ago. Dogs were first domesticated in East Asia, and some of the peoples who entered North America took dogs with them from Asia.

Importance Of Dog Training

Importance Of Dog Training

A dog that is untrained can and does cause his owner a lot of stress as well as also endangers the very life of the dog itself. It is therefore important and necessary for every dog owner to start dog training as soon as their dog or puppy is old enough to listen and understand simple instructions. The first and most basic part of dog training involves teaching your dog essential commands after which your dog will get to learn to do simple tasks like ‘sit’ when told to do so and to ‘stay’, and ‘go’ when so commanded.

Start Your Dog Training Early

The most critical aspect to dog training is to start your dog off as early as is possible because once your dog has grown older it will then become much harder to break his established habits. Early training will make sure that your dog learns how to behave properly and obediently, and it will also be easier to train your dog. At the same time it is also important to understand the value of imparting dog training in shorter sessions rather than in long boring training sessions.

Dogs are easily distracted and known to have very short attention spans. So to use this trait of theirs to your advantage requires that you only conduct the training while his attention is focused on what you are teaching him. In addition, you need to create a daily routine for him to follow which can consist of five to ten minutes training sessions in the morning followed by the same duration in the afternoon as well as in the evening.

Problems Arising From Dog Training

Dog training is not always a smooth sailing process and there are occassions when common problems will arise. One of the main reason for such problems arising is that you have not managed to earn and command the respect of your dog. As harsh as this may sound to you, it is nevertheless a very real reason why dogs would not follow your commands. It will take a lot of effort and patience to teach them that you are the master and not them.

Another common dog training problem that you will have to overcome is that your dog jumps too much. In order to rectify this behavior , try and turn your back to your dog to show him (who is a pack animal like wolf) that such behavior is unacceptable. Your dog will soon come to realize that when he jumps on you and you turn your back to him he is being ignored and shunned. Hopefully, the above two methods will help you overcome the common dog training problems you may face.

Sending Your Dog To Dog Training School

You may want to consider sending your dog to a dog training school in case you are very busy and don’t have time to spare to train your dog or you feel that you want your dog to be specially trained by professionals. Even when it proves to be too difficult to get your dog to obey you, engaging professional help in the matter will soon help rectify the situation.

Hi, I have a puppy and I tried training him. It was really tough initially but it got better after a few weeks. Now he listens to simple command like 'sit' and 'stay'. Get lots of satisfaction from it. I love him so much. Thanks for the great article.
